IMSE IN ACTION
The Transformation at Cucamonga
Cucamonga School District (CSD) in Southern California serves around 2,443 students across four schools. Today, the majority of its K-3 students read at or above grade level. But not long ago, CSD was desperate to correct literacy gaps, and its teachers felt unequipped to help their struggling readers.
Amazed by the success neighboring districts were having with IMSE’s evidence-based approach, CSD signed up for IMSE’s Structured Literacy trainings. That was the start of something big.
In each grade taught with an IMSE approach, CSD saw double-digit percentage increases in proficient readers over just one school year. Transformed by a new sense of hope and purpose, this California district is currently expanding the IMSE initiative to reach every one of its K-8 students.
